BODY & SOUL

Kandawgyi Lake
Join locals for a stroll or jog through the park and around this beautiful lake in the heart of Yangon. It’s crowded in the morning with people taking their constitutional, and at night with cuddling couples sharing sweet nothings along the shore.

HOT SPOTS

Latha Township –Part of Chinatown area, this area is choc-a-block with people, street-side restaurants, hole-inthe- wall shops and numerous historic buildings. Find a tiny stool at a teashop and watch Yangon pass you by.

INSIDER TIPS

Wait for the weekend –To appreciate the real Shwedagon Pagoda and the devout locals it inspires, visit this temple at the weekend when droves of devotees make their weekly visit.

DAY TRIPPING

Bago –See the 55m-long reclining Buddha at Shwethalyaung and birdwatchers at the Moyingy Wetlands in Bago, two hours’ drive from Yangon.

IN THE KNOW

Longyi –Myanmar’s traditional clothing (pronounced “long jee”) for both sexes is elegant and comfortable. Have them made-to measure at Bogyoke market, where both fabric and tailors can be found.
