HOT SPOTS

Krabi Town markets –From 5am, visit the largest indoor market (Morning Market) in southern Th ailand – a perfect place to pick up snacks and fruit for a picnic. In the early evening, sample the tasty and cheap street food at the night market. Krabi morning market, Maharaj Road, Soi 9; Krabi night market, Maharaj Road, Soi 10

INSIDER TIPS

Scuba diving –Though the weather above sea level may be changeable, this time of year is actually one of the best to go underwater. The mating season for most sea creatures and the relative lack of boat traffic means fish are abundant and rare species often make an appearance.

DAY TRIPPING

Ao Nam Mao –Th is desolate stretch of coast just south of Ao Nang boasts two of the region’s most curious attractions: a geological miracle in the form of a beach made from fossilised shells some 40 million years old; and an outdoor aquarium at the Marine Conservation Centre, home to Hawksbill turtles, leopard sharks and other residents of the Andaman Sea. Take a taxi or tuk-tuk from Ao Nang.

IN THE KNOW

As well as the mainland itself, Krabi Province includes no less than 132 islands, several of which, such as Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Koh Jum, are inhabited.
