FROM THE AIRPORT
Taxi:
A taxi ride to/from the airport costs 15-20 yuan (depending on your bargaining skills). Most drivers do not use their meters in Jinghong, with most short trips costing five yuan.
Bus:
There is no shuttle bus service available in Jinghong, but fortunately, the airport is not far from town.

Join the locals for shao kao (barbecue) at one
of the many stalls here. Donât miss
the barbecued banana leaf wraps.

For a little cheap
water therapy, head to Gasa Hot
Spring, located about 20 minutes out
of town by taxi. Most cabs will make
the trip; just be sure to ask them to
wait for you â itâs hard to get a cab
here at night.
HOT SPOTS
Minorities Market –Known locally as the Gongyipinshichang, this market stocks teas, and gemstones. Spot the many Burmese traders clad in longyi â sarongs tied at the waist.
INSIDER TIPS
Local treks –Dozens of options are available. Local tour operators Forest
Cafe (tel (0)691 898-5122) and Mekong Cafe (tel (0)691 216-2395)
off er some superb treks in the region.
DAY TRIPPING
Galanba –Located 27km beyond the city, the rural village of Galanba is easily reached by bus or bicycle. Stop by the Sarlar Restaurant for some
authentic Dai food.

Jinghongâs Dai â the largest
ethnic group hereâ share
similarities with the people of
Laos and Thailand. If you speak a
bit of Thai, they may understand
you, but their written script and
other aspects of their culture are
very much unique.
