HOT SPOTS

Jingjiang Mausoleum –Located at the foot of Yao Mountain, these tombs are the resting place for the Ming princes who once ruled this city. The tombs are surrounded by gardens, making for a nice stroll.

INSIDER TIPS

Zhongshan Zhonglu Nightmarket –This frenetic market is the best place in town for trinkets and snacks. Come here aft er sunset and stock up on kitschy Mao memorabilia.

DAY TRIPPING

Qin Family Courtyard –Travel back in time to this unrestored Ming dynasty village – its well-preserved buildings provide a glimpse into China’s past.

IN THE KNOW

Hand-painted fans painstakingly decorated with intricate birds and flowers are a traditional craft of the Guilin region. Ranging from small hand-held fans to large ones, they make wonderful souvenirs.
