The Queen’s Cup Samui Golf Tournament 2009 was held from 13 to 16 August in Santiburi Samui Country Club. The event was a collaboration between Bangkok Airways, the Sports Authority of Thailand and PGA Thailand and was the flrst ever Asian Tour tournament held in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 77th Birthday. One of the event’s aims was to draw a larger number of golf enthusiasts to the island to help stimulate tourism.

Bangkok Airways’ M.L. Nandhika Varavarn, Vice President, Corporate Communications recently hosted a welcome lunch for a group of Australian journalists from the Australian Society of Travel Writers (ASTW).

Bangkok Airways and Samui Airport collaborated with the Samui Municipality and several local schools to organise the Samui Art Camp project from 12 to 14 June.
“This year’s camp marks the ninth consecutive annual art-for-kids event. We hope that this project will help develop the children’s painting skills so that they can express their views on the community they live in using their imagination,” said M.L. Nandhika Varavarn, Vice President, Corporate Communications, Bangkok Airways.
Held at Lamai School, the event involved more than 100 students from 26 elementary schools and many well-respected art teachers including Sungkom Thongmee and Kru Berm – Paiboon Tumreungrit. Also at the event were Anusara Deewai, editor of Praew Puen Dek magazine and Tinnakorn Kadsuwan, associate professor at Silpakorn University – both great storytellers who read fascinating tales to the children.
Bangkok Airways initiated the flrst Samui Art Camp in 2000 as an annual educational endeavour for local children. The main objective of the project is to allow students on Koh Samui to learn some art techniques from a range of experts, and to help children reach their fullest potential.
