on bangkok’s newest art centre
REDS AND YELLOWS
Heralded as Bangkok’s answer to the Louvre, the Bangkok Art and Cultural Centre (BACC) opened its doors recently after more than a decade of planning. The BACC is an 11-storey, 25,000 sq m behemoth that incorporates gallery space, shopping, restaurants, art studios, an auditorium and a library. The opening exhibition, Traces of Siamese Smile: Art + Faith + Politics + Love, is a collection of works inspired by the Thai way of life from both homegrown and foreign artists. International pieces include Paradise, a stunning red, orange and yellow installation from Korean Choi Jeong-Hwa (pictured here). This and the 300 other pieces in the show are on display at BACC until 26 November. Visit www.siamesesmile2008.com for more information.
