BANGKOK AIRWAYS CEO EARNS FRENCH ORDER OF MERIT
President and CEO of Bangkok Airways, Dr Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth recently received a distinction known as the Officier de l’Odre National du Mérite from the French Ambassador to Thailand, Laurent Bili. The award was given at a reception party held at the ambassador’s residence.
This order of merit is an emblem of appreciation given by the President of the Republic of France to French civil or foreign counterparts whose works deserve praise.
Dr Prasert is considered to be one of Thailand’s most outward-looking businesspersons known both in the aviation business and medical care development. As CEO, he takes part in several charitable activities, and has also collaborated with the Republic to enhance bi-lateral ties between the two countries.

SUKHOTHAI AIRPORT WINS GREEN AWARD
Recently, Sukhothai Airport was honoured with an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Monitoring Award 2007 by the Officer of Natural Resources and environmental policy and planning. This is the sixth consecutive year that the airport has won the prestigious award for its distinctive environment management.
The accolade is only given to business entities that are capable of maintaining environmental awareness and protection. Sukhothai Airport has shown commitment in its continuous efforts to assure the quality of the environmentally-friendly operations within the airport.
Among the green projects are garbage management, organic rice farming (used for inflight catering and served in hotels), allowing terminals to be naturally cooled to reduce use of air-conditioning, orchid cultivation and many others.
Sukhothai Airport was constructed with inspiration drawn from nearby Thai temples dating back to the ancient Sukhothai period. The facility opened in 1996 and offers flights to and from Bangkok several times a day.

interview get to know bangkok airways executives
VALUABLE RESOURCES
From the moment Duangjai Sinthusung, vice-president of human resources for Bangkok Airways, came into contact with her company in 1990, she was immediately impressed.
“I still remember the day that I came for the interview with Dr Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, president and CEO of Bangkok Airways.
I was so impressed with his intention to develop and move forward his airline business and was happy to get the job,” she says.
Duangjai has seen the company grow exponentially. “When I started the job, there were less than 200 employees, with only two planes. We had to work hard because we were working on the airport and airline at the same time,” she recalls.
The company now employs almost 2,000 staff and has over 17 aircraft , with more slated to be on the way. She is particularly proud of the airline’s staff uniform.
“It was the President who came up with the concept. He said it’s because of Koh Samui that Bangkok Airways is what it is, so we should use Thai batik cloth designed with crayfishes, seashells, crabs and fishes, the fauna of Koh Samui. This unique uniform has become a symbol of the airline for the last 15 years.”
Going forward, she hopes to continue cultivating a good attitude in the company’s employees to provide the best customer service. She says the best example of this can be found in Dr Prasert.
“I have never seen any president from any organisation who travels around to visit his staff and gets to know the finer details about each employee, but our President does. This shows how we are truly like a family,” she says.
