In recent years Mui Ne has become Ho Chi Minh’s de facto beach town. However, even before it became a holiday resort, the area was already famous for its renowned fish sauce and the striking sand dunes of the Binh Thuan Desert. A visit to this otherworldly landscape is almost obligatory. A three-hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City, this is the driest spot in South-East Asia, receiving fewer than 500mm of rain per year. The constantly changing shapes of the dunes and interesting formations of the immense canyons closer to the coast create a microclimate in Mui Ne, an oasis immune from the drought of the inland dunes.
