TRUNK TREASURES
“An old cultural belief has it that if a city possesses a large horde of white elephants, it means that the city is blessed with wealThand abundance,” says Prateep Srichan, the veteran craftsman who designed the sculpture of three royal pachyderms, recently erected in front of Bangkok’s city pillar shrine. It is one of 33 honorary structures celebrating His Majesty the King’s upcoming 80Thbirthday on 5 December 2007.
More such tributes will be put up around Chitralada Palace and along Ratchadamnoen Avenue. with such feasts for the eyes in the city of angels, one might say that the old belief has indeed come true.
