THAI PRESS VISITS PAKSE

A group of Thai press recently visited Pakse in Laos’ southern province of Champasak on a four-day tour that covered key attractions of the region, including the magnificent Tad Yeuang Waterfall, Khonephapheng Waterfall, the Four Th ousand Islands in the Mekong River (also known as Siphandone), UNESCO World Heritage Wat Phu temple, and tea and coffee plantations.

Organised by Bangkok Airways, together with Diethelm Travel, Tad Pha Suam Resort, Senesothxuen Hotel and Champasak Palace Hotel, the purpose of the trip was to promote the destination Pakse in conjunction with the launch of Bangkok Airways’ direct service between Bangkok and Pakse this April.

THAILAND-JAPAN RELATIONSHIP

In collaboration with the Ministry of Transport of Kyushu, Bangkok Airways invited a group of Thai press and travel agents to celebrate 120 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Japan. The event was held at the Hotel Okura in Fukuoka. During the trip, the contingent was brought to visit a top selection of attractions in and around Kyushu, including the famous Beppu onsen, Kuju Flower Park, Mount Aso, Kitty Land Amusement Park, and the Cuddly Dominion Zoo.

LEE SUNG WINS BANGKOK AIRWAYS OPEN 2007

The tournament of challenge – Bangkok Airways Open (PG Open) 2007 – was won by Lee Sung from Korea, who is the third champion of the Asian Tour tournament.

Staged at the Santiburi Samui Country Club in Koh Samui from 7-10 June, the tournament saw a number of A-list Asian golfers joining the US$300,000-prize game. Golfers Lu Wen Teh, champion of the PG Open 2005, last year’s winner Chawalit Plaphol, and favourites Thongchai Jaidee, Chinnarat Phadungsing and Zhang Lian-Wei were among those competing for the cup.

Prior to the event, there was a Pro-Am tournament, followed by the Golf Clinic. Organised annually by Bangkok Airways, the event was sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Th ailand, Santiburi Samui Country Club, Airbus, BioMaxx Golf Management, American Express, Kasikorn Bank and other supporting partners.

PATA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Bangkok Airways’ Vice President of Corporate Communications, ML Nandhika Varavarn ( with Phornsiri Manoharn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand) has recently been appointed to the Pacifi c Asia Travel Association (PATA) Board of Directors. Khun Nandhika will serve a two-year term, starting from 22 April 2007 until the Board of Directors’ Meeting in 2009.

SAMUI KIDS’ ART EXHIBITION

Following on from the Samui Art Camp held earlier this year, Bangkok Airways organised an art show entitled the Samui Kids’ Art Exhibition at the BTS National Stadium train station in Bangkok.

The event featured 26 specially chosen paintings by some very creative children from the island of Koh Samui. Th e young artists were brought to Bangkok to attend the exhibition. While they were in town, the children were taken on an excursion to The Grand Palace as well.

The budding talents were coached by the country’s most reputable art teacher, Sungkom Th ongmee. Presiding over the exhibition were ML Nandhika Varavarn, Bangkok Airways’ Vice President for Corporate Communications, Surapong Laoha-Unya, BTS’s Chief Operating Offi cer and the children’s instructor Sungkom Thongmee.
