NEW ROUTE LAUNCH
Bangkok Airways is proud to announce the addition of a new fight between Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to its list of “exotic gems”.
Th is exciting city certainly offers holiday-makers a gateway to a wealth of interesting sights, including a thriving Chinatown and art scene.
Commencing on 2 March 2007, the thrice-weekly fights depart Bangkok at 4.30pm and return at 6.50pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

NEW CATERING FACILITY IN SAMUI
The Bangkok Air Catering facility at Samui Airport has found a new home. Located on 1,500sq m of land adjacent to the airport, the new food preparation facility will help reduce meal delivery time to all Bangkok Airways’ outbound flights leaving from Samui Airport, which the airline had previously outsourced to its catering unit at the Samui Palm Beach Resort.
“The advantage for Bangkok Airways to operate its own catering unit next to the airport is that it helps reduce transportation costs,” explains Thavatvong Thanasumitra, Bangkok Airways’ Senior Vice President of Finance and Vice President of Catering.
“The previous catering operations were out of Samui Palm Beach Resort, which is located further inland, and is no longer a practical method when coping with the continual increase of passengers to Samui Airport each year,” he elaborates. “The proximity to the airport means that meal delivery is only a few minutes away from each aircraft , thus guaranteeing meal freshness for our passengers.”
Koh Samui’s Bangkok Air Catering operations adhere strictly to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) food-safety standards – from receiving orders, preparation, production and storage to loading all items securely onto the aircraft .
The catering unit will employ about 70 employees, and has the maximum operational capacity of producing 7,000 meals per day.

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY
For the 11th consecutive time, Bangkok Airways recently hosted Children’s Day celebrations at its privately-owned airport, Sukhothai Airport. President and CEO of Bangkok Airways, Dr Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, along with Wanchai Sutin, governor of Sukhothai province, presided over the opening ceremony to mark National Children’s Day 2007. On this special occasion, Dr Prasert also awarded 150 education scholarships to students from local schools.
The celebrations this year attracted more than 15,000 children from all around the Sukhothai province, and featured over 70 activity booths and displays. Among the many highlights were traditional “Kon” Th ai puppet dance, military and aircraft exhibits, as well as trivia and art competitions, in which children stood a chance to win Bangkok Airways’ air tickets.

ORCHID BONANZA
Led by the provincial governor, the first Sukhothai Orchid Festival was held at Suan Luang Rama 9 Park on 23-28 January. Free to the public, the daily show’s theme was “Chang Chon Chang”.
One of the main purposes of the event was to celebrate the 80th Birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, alongside the promotion of orchid farming in the Kingdom.
This festival included an exhibition consisting of over 10,000 orchid species, an orchid pageant, and a colourful orchid park. Orchid experts had the opportunity to share their experiences with floral enthusiasts interested in gaining a better understanding about how to grow and cultivate these flowers.
Many orchid-gardening tools on show were also for sale, as were a plethora of Sukhothai OTOP products.
