E-TICKET UPDATE

Bangkok Airways is leading the way in responding to the International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s mission to ensure that all airlines use Electronic Tickets (ET) on all routes by the end of 2007.

Electronic tickets were successfully implemented on all Bangkok Airways’ domestic flights in July 2003, followed by those heading to/from Cambodia and Laos by mid-2006.

The remaining routes – which include Yangon, Singapore, Hong Kong, Hiroshima and six destinations in China – will also be online by the end of next year. Included in this move will be the service between Hong Kong and Cambodia by Siem Reap Airways International.

The airline’s current ET volume is reportedly 92% of all tickets issued from travel agents throughout Thailand.

MALDIVES ONCE MORE

In November 2004, Bangkok Airways paved the way as the first airline to fly direct between Bangkok and Malé, the capital of the Maldives, where the world’s most pristine atolls can be found.

Operations had to be suspended after the tsunami that hit the region’s shores two years ago. However, the airline is now resuming its BOUTIQUE Maldives service.

Starting on 30 November 2006, Bangkok Airways will once more grace the Maldivian skies. The flight takes off twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. It is scheduled to leave Bangkok at 2.50pm and arrive at Malé International Airport at 5pm; while the return flight leaves at 6pm and arrives in Bangkok at 12.30am..

AMONG THE BEST

In the online Smart Travel Asia’s Travel Poll 2006 (www.smarttravelasia.com” target=”_blank”>www.smarttravelasia.com), travellers from all around the world voted Samui Airport fourth best within the category of Best Airport Worldwide, beaten only by Singapore’s Changi Airport, Hong Kong International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The high incoming and outgoing traffic at Samui Airport makes it the fourth busiest airport in Thailand. In 2004, about 1.02 million people passed through airport customs, and last year, the figures rose to 1.28 million, reflecting an increase of 25% in passenger traffic.

Bangkok Airways currently operates 74 daily flights – both domestic and international – in and out of Samui Airport. These include up to 31 daily flights from/to Bangkok, two daily flights to Phuket, one daily flight to U-Tapao (Pattaya), and five flights per week to Chiang Mai.

On the international front, Bangkok Airways operates daily flights to Singapore and also flies to Hong Kong five times a week.

NEW HOMEBASE

A week before its official opening on 28 September 2006, Bangkok Airways began a new chapter of its legend at Bangkok’s new international airport, Suvarnabhumi.

On 21 September, the airline partially moved its operation from the 92-year-old Don Muang Airport to the mega Suvarnabhumi, and commenced flights from here to Sukhothai, Chiang Mai and Koh Samui in Thailand, as well as Jinghong (Xishuangbanna) and Shenzhen in China.

By 28 September, right on time, the full operation of the airline was completely shifted to the new airport. Its state-of-the-art BOUTIQUE domestic lounge at Concourse A was also officially opened on the same day to mark the significant occasion.

Sprawling across 600sq m, the trendy new lounge features a courtesy corner with various kinds of snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as internet access, a reading area and a playground for kids. It is open to all Bangkok Airways passengers, while a VIP lounge is available for Premier members of the airline’s FlyerBonus programme and business-class Blue Ribbon Club travellers.

Bangkok Airways’ Senior Vice President of Operations, Captain Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth (top right, centre) presided over the opening of the new lounge in the presence of the airline’s executives and a host of domestic and international press.
