SPA REVIEW: RIVERSIDE REJUVENATION

It can get a bit hot on the boat ride across the Chao Phraya, but there’s a lovely bamboo-lined wooden walkway to welcome you into Millennium Hilton Bangkok’s chic, all-new The Spa (tel +66 (0)2 442-2000, www.bangkok.hilton.com). Once inside the creamy spa lobby, low-slung white sofas are inviting and suck visitors into their marshmallow softness. The Spa uses top-of-the-line European brands, Pevonia and Thalgo, although the 90-minute signature Equilibrium treatment draws from traditional Thai therapies. This consists of a flavourful black sesame and honey body scrub as well as a wild mint oil massage with a heated herbal compress to knead out those knotty muscles. The treatments on offer feature a series based on the four elements of air, water, fire and earth; facials that include the opulent anti-ageing Myoxy-Caviar and Pearl by Pevonia facial, said to reduce wrinkles; male spa and grooming treatments; and a range of two- to six-hour spa packages. After you are done with your treatments, do take some time out to sit in quiet contemplation on the outdoor terrace under the natural canopy of a spectacular banyan tree.

Q&A: MODEL RADIANCE

Top Thai model Joy Varaluck Vanichkul, owner of Bangkok’s ultra-chic Zense of Joy day spa in Jasmine City (tel +66 (0)2 261-4500, www.zenseofjoy.com), shares her tips on how to look your best for the party season with her unique Supermodel Spa Programme. Why your own spa? I believe everyone loves to look and feel good. I’ve always taken care of myself since I started modelling 18 years ago. I love going to spas and, after visiting many on my travels around the world, I realised that Thai therapists are the most talented. I thought that it would be a good business to combine excellent international products with our skilled therapists in a great concept spa. With my fashion industry background, I can also give customers added value in their beauty and well-being. What makes yours different? It’s the first one in Thailand that is a spa within a fitness centre. Our spa customers combine body and beauty treatments with exercise, so it’s a good balance of fitness and rejuvenation. We have a full range of services for the face and body, an anti-cellulite treatment and an overwhelmingly successful slimming programme. Our Supermodel Spa Programme is not offered by any other spa here. Can you tell us more about the Supermodel Spa Programme? It is a unique 30-day treatment specially designed to help develop good health, a good body, good skin and good habits, so participants of the programme can really look and feel like a supermodel. We have a master and practitioners to guide them through the entire course, which is available as two different Supermodel packages for members and non-members. Members even have the chance to join celebrities in personal training, yoga and Pilates classes!
